Job Summary

The University of Colorado Population Center (CUPC) in the Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will help build the Reproduction in People’s Lives (RIPL) dataset with the Colorado Fertility Research Group and launch a number of planned research projects that use this new data resource.

The Colorado Fertility Research Group is evaluating the causal effect of access to contraception on people’s lives by evaluating the effect of Colorado’s expansion of its Title X program via the Colorado Family Planning Initiative. The successful candidate will assist in the development of a full-population longitudinal dataset based on individually-linked full census and other federal administrative data and will contribute to the use of these data for the evaluation of this policy’s impact on women’s fertility and women’s and men’s socioeconomic status.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Under the direction of the project’s faculty investigators, the Post-Doctoral Research Associate will contribute to both the data management and the scientific aims of the Colorado Fertility Research Group, including but not limited to:

• Work with research assistants to develop and implement algorithmic harmonization strategies to combine administrative data sources in the Federal Statistical Research Data Center network environment to generate individual-level demographic trajectories for all US residents;
• Perform analysis of the RIPL dataset in order to summarize study data and writing white papers on the dataset;
• Conduct analysis of the RIPL dataset in support of the scientific aims of the Colorado Fertility Research Group;
• Under the guidance of investigators, drafting manuscripts based on RIPL data for publication in scholarly journals;
• Assist with the management of data production and ensuring timely delivery of data extracts to the U.S. Census Bureau;
• Contribute to data quality, code validation checks, and documentation of existing and new codebases;
• Review literature and contributing to new grant proposals as required;
• Develop new research projects in coordination with investigators;
• Pursue independent research agenda;
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know

The ideal candidate will join the Colorado Fertility Research Group as a full-time associate in the Spring of 2021, though the start date and percent effort are flexible. The appointment is for one year and is renewable for up to two years based on performance.

What We Can Offer

Salary range for this position is $53,000 - $56,000/year.

What We Require

• A Ph.D. in a related social science (for example Sociology, Demography, Economics) is required at the time of appointment.
• The applicant is required to secure Census Bureau Special Sworn Status as a condition of employment

• Strong project management skills with outstanding attention to detail required.
• Proven ability to work with and analyze administrative health or demographic data.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive relationships with various partners.
• Strong time management skills with a proven ability to multitask and to prioritize to successfully complete projects on tight deadlines with little supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data in a simple and straightforward way for non-technical audiences required.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment required.

What We Would Like You To Have

• Knowledge and understanding of the demography of fertility, family planning, and/or policy evaluation strongly preferred.
