Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of Communication Studies at Sam Houston State University invites applications for two positions for one-year renewable full-time, non-tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of lecturer to begin Fall semester 2021.

Candidates should have a master’s degree (in hand by August 2021) in Communication Studies or Speech Communication, a minimum of two years teaching experience, mandatory experience teaching both online and face-to-face classes, and degrees from accredited universities or institutions of higher learning. Preference is given candidates with experience teaching both public speaking and business and professional communication classes and those candidates with a Ph.D. Service learning/community engagement experience is a bonus.

The position requires teaching public speaking, communication for business and the professions, and other basic Communication Studies courses as may be assigned. The teaching load is four courses, usually in face-to-face format, in both fall and spring semesters. Occasionally, online course sections might become available. Summer courses are not included in the teaching load.

Educational Requirements for the Position

Applicants must have at least a master’s degree in Communication Studies or Speech Communication. Preference will be given to candidates who have a PhD. Candidates are expected to have degrees from an accredited university or institution of higher learning and have their degrees in hand at the time of hire.

Experience Required for the Position

-Minimum 2 years college level teaching experience.
-Mandatory face-to-face and online teaching experience.
-Preference given to those with experience teaching Public Speaking and Communication for Business & Professions courses.
-Service learning/community engagement experience is a bonus.
