Assistant Professor-Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology

Washburn University’s Department of Psychology invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Psychology to begin August 2021. This is a full-time 9-month, tenure track position.

Washburn is a public institution located in the metropolitan setting of Topeka that has earned national recognition for its high-impact programs for first-generation students. The University and Department are dedicated to a culturally diverse faculty and student body. This posting is for one of two current openings in the Department; the other is for a full-time Lecturer position. In addition to its undergraduate curriculum, the Psychology Department offers a master’s degree in clinical psychology.

For the assistant professorship, a completed Ph.D. is required by the time of tenure-track appointment. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to students from diverse backgrounds and a dedication to the development of inclusive pedagogies that support equity and student success. Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology from an APA-accredited program; ABD applicants will be considered, with completion of the Ph.D. by August 1, 2022.
• Graduate training in developmental psychopathology.
• Experience teaching at the collegiate level.
• Licensed or license-eligible in Kansas as a psychologist.
• A demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse populations.
• Proven dedication to inclusive pedagogies and commitment to inclusion as a core value.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience mentoring student research.
• A research program in developmental psychopathology.

Responsibilities:

• Teach 12 credit hours per semester or a full workload as defined by the faculty handbook.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars, which may include courses such as Child Assessment, Child Assessment Practicum, Child Treatment, Child Treatment Practicum, Introductory Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Personality, or Diversity as assigned by the Department Chairperson.
• Supervise undergraduate and master’s student research.
• Have an active research program that can involve students.
• Advise students and engage in service activities in the Department and to the University, the profession, and the community.
• Become licensed before tenure and maintain licensure thereafter.
