The Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics (CBSD) invites applications for a Program Coordinator II . The Program Coordinator is the primary point of contact for the CBSD main office and is responsible for coordinating CBSD events and being the primary liaison to the University of Montana (UM) research community, the broader UM community and the general public in Missoula and across Montana.

Other duties of the employee assigned to this position include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Planning the CBSD Annual Research Symposium
  • Maintaining the CBSD website
  • Developing and writing a quarterly newsletter
  • Communicating and organizing regular CBSD events
  • Purchasing goods and renewing service contracts
  • Collecting timesheets and processing payrolls
  • Organizing and coordinating the annual NIH progress report
  • Making travel arrangements and processing reimbursements for CBSD staff and external seminar speakers, as needed


The individual assigned to this position will be expected to carry out routine and unusual duties described herein with a high degree of independence and a minimum of supervision. Specifically, the person occupying this position should take the initiative to anticipate reporting deadlines and requirements, read and understand reporting instructions provided by agencies and the University, and plan and execute actions necessary to submit reports of high quality within institutional deadlines. The person assigned to this role will be expected to work independently and exercise sound judgment in decision-making and resourcefulness in the absence of the Director or Financial Officer.



Required Skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint software programs;
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet programs;
  • Basic working knowledge and practical experience in using the Banner accounting system and Griz Mart purchasing system of the University of Montana, or similar systems, to the extent needed to purchase goods and services from outside vendors;
  • Understanding of, and ability to apply, best practices and conform to purchasing guidelines of the Business Services administrative unit of the University of Montana;
  • Event planning and meeting organization skills and experience; availability and willingness to attend weekend meetings on an annual or semi-annual basis;
  • Excellent written composition, editing and proofreading skills; ability to organize and produce complex reports containing textual, numerical and illustrative content;
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to interact productively and professionally with faculty members, administrators, and external agency staff;
  • Website management experience, including, but not limited to Cascade;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others;
  • Strong planning and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines;
  • Adaptability, capacity to meet challenges and learn new skills;
  • A positive and constructive attitude, ability to interact patiently and respectfully with co-workers, learn from constructive criticism, and provide guidance to others as needed.


Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalency) in a relevant discipline, in addition to three (3) years of closely related experience; or any combination of experience and education that provides the competencies necessary to successfully discharge the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at the University of Montana within a Research Center of Excellence performing programmatic work related to event management, organization, reporting, and website content maintenance; Experience in working with University of Montana administrative units, particularly academic departments and centers, Business Services, University Relations, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Human Resources is highly desirable;
  • Experience working with research faculty in the sciences; familiarity with the science research culture and the working relationships among faculty, research personnel and graduate students;
  • Experience working with CoBRE grant awards, and the financial and programmatic reporting activities associated with the management of federal grants.


About the Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics , UM , and Missoula

The Center of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics (CBSD) is designated by the Board of Regents as a Research Center of the University of Montana. The mission of the Center is to support collaborative research among faculty investigators that employs the principles of physics, chemistry and structural biology to address significant problems in biology and medicine by (a) seeking extramural research center support to support promising investigators and research projects, (b) financial support of core instrument facilities and expertise; (c) support of students and programmatic activities of the Biochemistry and Biophysics Graduate Program and (d) sponsorship of programmatic activities such as seminars and workshops. These goals shall be funded in part by an NIH CoBRE award, indirect cost advances from the CoBRE award, CBSD support funds, and from SPABA funds available from grants submitted by UM faculty through the CBSD.

Position Details

Position Title: Program Coordinator II

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year,

Salary: $15.75/hr - Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department .

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
