About the Opportunity:
The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department (https://mie.northeastern.edu/) is a successful, vibrant, and diverse academic enterprise. The MIE Department has annual research expenditures of ~$13M and is home to two research centers: (1) NSF Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing and (2) NSF/DHHS Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute. The department has rapidly grown in the last five (5) years and is currently comprised of 25 full-time co-op and teaching faculty and 55 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, of which 1 is a National Academy member, 25 are professional society fellows, 35% are women and 38% have received Young Investigator Awards. In addition, to our strong external research funding and programs in core and multidisciplinary areas including Biomechanics and Soft Matter, Robotics, Resilient Systems, Multifunctional Composites, Critical Infrastructure, Sustainability and Security, Big Data Analytics, and Man-Machine Interfaces. The department is also home to a large and highly talented student pool, currently enrolling over 160 PhD, 1,600 MS, and 1,400 BS students. Our current program U.S. News and World Reports graduate rankings are 40 (Mechanical Engineering) and 34 (Industrial Engineering).

Applicants will be considered at all ranks and are being sought in areas with emphases on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and crosscutting activities. Faculty candidates in the broad research area of Intelligent Systems are being targeted, and in line with research focuses of smart manufacturing, resilience and sustainability, as well as AI with data analytics applied to multi-agent socio-technical systems, supply chain/logistics, systems engineering, infrastructure and other related issues.

Responsibilities:
Candidates are expected to have demonstrated or show potential/vision for establishing an excellent nationally and internationally recognized research program and strong record in extramurally funded research. Candidates will also need to demonstrate high-quality in teaching and contribute to advancing MIE education programs. In addition, candidates should be prepared to contribute to department, college, and university service.

Qualifications:
A PhD is required in an appropriate field (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, etc.) from an accredited institution by the appointment start date.
