New York University’s Silver School of Social Work invites applications for a tenured Full Professor to serve as the School’s Inaugural Associate Dean for Faculty Diversity and Development. This position is scheduled to commence in September of 2021.  

We seek a leading scholar pursuing cutting-edge research broadly pertaining to equity, racism, marginalization, diversity, disparities, exclusion/inclusion, and oppression, for individuals, families, communities, and society. Candidates should have a robust program of research in one or more of these areas and a thriving extramurally-funded research agenda. Candidates must demonstrate leadership in their field. The successful candidate will teach in the School’s academic programs and be an integral part of the leadership of the School and the University. Under certain circumstances, Associate Professor rank will be considered. 

The successful candidate will provide School leadership to support faculty success, promotion, and retention at all ranks at the School, especially for faculty from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)  backgrounds. They will work to strengthen support and mentoring mechanisms for faculty with an aim to promote faculty advancement from recruitment through promotion and leadership development. 

The Silver School of Social Work has embarked on an ambitious multi-year mission to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all aspects of the School. The successful candidate will provide intellectual and strategic guidance to this mission, and work in partnership with newly established offices and resources to continuously elevate the School’s culture, climate, and support for faculty diversity, development and success. They will also serve as the principal lead for faculty matters pertaining to bias, equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

The successful candidate will work within the University structure to secure resources and support for the Silver School’s DEI initiatives and will work closely with NYU’s Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation to ensure School representation in campus-wide initiatives. We see the successful candidate serving as a knowledgeable consultant, thoughtful advisor, advocate, catalyst for change, and institutional resource. 

A doctoral degree in social work or a related field is required. Prior experience in academic administration is preferred.
