Chief Diversity & Inclusive Innovation Officer

Position Description: Reporting directly to President Harlan M. Sands, the Chief Diversity & Inclusive Innovation Officer will serve as a strategic advisor to the president and a key member of the senior leadership team. The incumbent will lead and collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members to promote and advance Cleveland State University’s commitment to an inclusive and equitable campus community in pursuit of our academic mission. This is a unique opportunity for a senior-level diversity & inclusion leader with a track record of diversity related accomplishments to impact priorities and direction at a time when the University is charting its future and is positioned for significant growth.

Supported by a President, Provost, academic and administrative leadership fully committed to diversity and inclusion, the Chief Diversity & Inclusive Innovation Officer will be a passionate advocate for diversity prepared to build on the university’s successes while identifying and operationalizing a strategic plan to enhance and advance innovative and forward thinking approaches to creating a diverse and inclusive campus environment.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
Ten (10) years of progressive experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in a complex organization, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
A proven record of accomplishment leading the development and implementation of a multiyear strategic diversity plan.
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of best practices in organizational diversity and inclusion theories and application, training, and change management.
Excellent communication skills, including effective presentations, report writing and data analysis.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in diverse environments.

Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree from an accredited college/university.
Experience working with and serving as a peer to the senior most members of the organization.
Knowledge of college/university structure, governance, policies and practices.
Recognition as a preeminent leader of diversity.

Excellent judgment; demonstrates decisiveness, while influencing others in a way that results in acceptance and agreement.

Strong verbal and written presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way and tailor key messages and presentations to multiple audiences.

High energy, creative, flexible, results‐oriented, self‐starting leader who is capable of quickly taking control of responsibilities.
Works well in entrepreneurial, lean and fluid environments and is willing to get “hands dirty”.
