POSITION SUMMARY
This is a Title III grant-funded position budgeted for five years, supporting the development of experiential education for all students, with an emphasis on students of diverse backgrounds. Located within the Office of Career Development, and part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Internship Navigator – Business, Engineering & Education (BEE) is responsible for the development of internships for all students seeking that experience within the School of Business, Hal & Inge Marcus School of Engineering and College of Education. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Students & Director, Career Development, the Internship Navigator – BEE is responsible for recruiting students to complete an internship and working with organizations to create academically-rich internships. The Career Center serves the needs of current students, alumni, and the community by working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and employers. The Internship Navigator – BEE provides the administrative, advising, and educational support and resources necessary to aid students with finding and successfully completing an internship, both for credit and not for credit. Internships provide experiential learning to apply what they have learned in the classroom.

NOTE: This job will be completed partly remote at direction of the Associate Dean of Students & Director, Career Development.

Local travel: 10%

Internship Development and Student Support
• Develop internship sites and promote and facilitate internship placement for students.
• Attends department meetings and advisory board meetings to develop relationships between faculty and the Career Center; develop and provide internship guides to faculty, students, and employers.
• Organize and run the annual Internship Fair with support of Internship Navigator – College of Arts & Sciences.
• Work with business and engineering faculty and external organizations to develop research internships.
• Coordinate information sessions, networking socials, mock interview and resume prep sessions, develop and deliver presentations to classes, and student groups on a regular basis on career-related topics.
• Through one-on-one appointments, provide direction and assistance to students in outlining effective steps toward achieving their career and educational goals as it relates to using Handshake, personality assessments, work-study positions, internships, scholarships, and job search efforts.
• Represent the office and internship program at on and off-campus events, including admissions events, orientations, committees (i.e. Thurston County Partners in Philanthropy, etc.)
• Serve as the primary contact for faculty and academic department staff for internships; attend department meetings to promote internship opportunities.
Administrative
• By attending conferences and online subscriptions, stay current on industry trends, employer expectations, and best practices.
• Develop and present the best practices of Saint Martin’s University at conferences (i.e. NACE and MPACE).
• Develop procedure with Internship Navigator – College of Arts & Sciences to track all internship participation through the Handshake database; work with faculty internship advisors to collect all internship information and tracking documents.
• Work with faculty to develop a curriculum around financial literacy, professionalism, and internship documentation.
• Provide outreach to students through presence in student organizations, ASSMU, class presentations, email, and social media.
• Attend web and on-site conferences related to career services and internships.
Employer/Community Outreach
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employers seeking interns within the School of Business, Hal & Inge Marcus School of Engineering and College of Education.
• Researches potential employers, making initial or follow-up contacts, maintaining and developing community relationships through incoming calls/visits with the primary responsibility of maintaining an updated database of contacts.
• Work with employers to educate and provide resources on anti-racist, anti-discriminatory hiring practices, as well as how to address implicit bias in their workplaces to create inclusive internship environments.
Other Functions
• Other duties as assigned by Associate Dean of Students & Director, Career Development.

COMPETENCIES
• Knowledge of best practices related to supporting diverse student population, including BIPOC students, students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, and other historically marginalized identities.
• Knowledge of internship process and Washington State in-demand industries related to majors within the School of Business, Hal & Inge Marcus School of Engineering and College of Education.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing.
• Skilled in effectively communicating verbally with constituents (students, faculty, staff, employers, and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds) in person and over the phone.
• Skilled in preparing and delivering presentations to classes and workshop participants.
• Ability to gain and apply knowledge of all functions associated with the routine operating of the database Handshake to include changes to student and employer records, resumes, referrals to jobs, and report generation.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to demonstrate a high level of professional conduct and appearance representative of the business community.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently with accurate attention to detail.
• Proficient with social media technologies for outreach to students, alumni, and employers.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
• Ability to effectively work in a remote environment.
• Ability to work well with others and function in a team environment.
• Must be supportive of Catholic Benedictine philosophy of education.

REQUIREMENTS AND/OR CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in higher education/student services and/or employer outreach.
• Previous project management or event planning experience.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to learn and manage the internship database (Handshake).
• Successfully pass a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and remotely. Physical demands include:
• Moves objects (less than 20 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
• Ability to be mobile campus-wide for appropriate business needs.
• Operates a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements.
• Reading, writing, speaking, hearing, standing, bending, sitting.
• Learning and comprehending.
• Requires visual concentration on detail.
• Manual dexterity and precision required for keyboarding.
• Must be able to sit for long periods at a time at a computer.
• May occasionally be required to deal with distraught people.
