This award is designed to provide support and mentorship for a promising scholar who is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the goal of preparing the scholar for a tenure-track appointment at Eckerd College or elsewhere. The fellowship will be for the academic year 2021-2022.

The fellow will teach one course per semester and a January Term course in their field of expertise and will be expected to give several public presentations. Annual compensation, including benefits, is competitive. The fellow will enjoy access to the resources of Eckerd College’s library system, mentorship from senior colleagues, and support for conference travel.

The fellowship is open to a wide range of fields, but preference will be given to scholars in African American Studies, Critical Race Studies, Ethnic Studies, Latin American Studies, Psychology, Political Science, or History of Science and Technology. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited doctoral program in the U.S., authorized to work in the U.S., and demonstrate a commitment to and engagement with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Special consideration will be given to applicants from racial/ethnic groups underrepresented at Eckerd College.

The fellow must have an approved dissertation proposal and have advanced to candidate status at their home institution. Successful candidates will show evidence of outstanding academic achievement and promise as teachers and scholars. Candidates should have a capacity to respond in pedagogically productive ways to the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to engaging communities underrepresented in the academy.

Applicants should submit a current C.V. and cover letter describing the applicant’s dissertation project, an official transcript, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a set of recent teaching evaluations. The cover letter should address the dissertation’s aims, methodologies, and contribution to its field. In addition, a letter from the dissertation advisor is required, commenting on the student’s performance, potential, and expected time to degree.
