VICE PRESIDENT FOR ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT AND STUDENT SUCCESS

Shaw University (“Shaw” or “the University”), founded in 1865, is the first historically Black institution of higher education in the South and among the oldest in the nation. At a critical point in its history, Shaw seeks a data-driven, solutions oriented, and collaborative leader as Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success (VPEMSS). Partnering closely with the President of the University, the next VPEMSS will apply a holistic lens to enhancing all aspects of the enrollment function and give high priority to animating the student experience at Shaw.

Shaw University, since its founding, has been a pioneer in providing higher education to African Americans, giving them the opportunity to be productive citizens, support their families, achieve personal and professional fulfillment, and contribute to the larger society. Shaw has provided generations of African American women and men—and particularly those from rural areas, from vulnerable populations, or with limited options—with a high-quality education. Its graduates have gone on to distinction in a wide variety of fields and to be prominent civic leaders. Shaw is an anchor in the Raleigh community. It is a beacon of hope for those who understand the power of education to transform lives.

Under the visionary leadership of President Paulette Dillard, the University has tremendous potential. As the first leader of this newly assembled division, the VPEMSS will assume a significant and influential position at the University and have the opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the future of Shaw. This strategic role combines the enrollment management division with student success support programs, creating an opportunity for the VPEMSS to architect the development of a new enrollment management model and to influence broad campus policy and operations regarding student recruitment, persistence, and retention. The new leader will be empowered to build on the considerable institutional support for and interest in enrollment and student success to recruit, attract, select, enroll, retain, educate, develop, and graduate a talented and diverse group of students. It is expected that the VPEMSS will formulate, execute, and continuously assess a seamless and forward-looking student support experience from first point of contact to graduation that stems from and extends the mission, goals, and aspirations of Shaw University.

The successful candidate will provide vision, leadership, and expertise to all areas of enrollment and student success at Shaw. The VPEMSS will be a strong collaborator and communicator. A passion for building and comfort with change are essential, as is great analytic and technological depth, a commitment to keeping student welfare and success at the forefront, and a proven capacity for embedding enrollment and student success priorities within institutional value and aspirations.

A sense of the opportunities and challenges facing private colleges and universities and a passion for their purposes are essential.
