The Military and Veteran Success Center (MVSC) serves veterans, active-duty members, reservists and dependents regarding academic, social and financial needs while they transition from the military to being enrolled students at Colorado State University Pueblo. This includes helping eligible military veterans and their qualified dependents secure their veteran’s education benefits through the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

 

 Description of Job: The primary role of the Academic Success Coach is to ensure that students receive a positive and holistic experience during their academic career with regard to advising, policies, coursework, career exploration, and extracurricular activities. This position seeks to provide students with a smooth transition into higher education via personal and regular contact so that they do well academically and socially and stay enrolled at CSU Pueblo.

Case Mana
gement
  • Provide new military and veteran students pursuing degrees with academic program advising, register, monitor, and maintain a caseload of new and continuing students for a minimum of two academic years.
  • Meet individually and in groups with students to develop structured Student Success Plans and DARS reports.
  • Track student academic progress.
  • Utilize Starfish enrollment management system to identify students at-risk and provide academic interventions as well as make referrals when elicited.
  • Conduct individualized follow-up sessions to provide support to students.
  • Create and present workshops on university policies, degree audits, career exploration, and course registration.
  • Help students in one-on-one meetings to help them navigate the registration process including selecting and registering for classes.
  • Facilitate student connections with other departments on campus including the career center, peer mentors, and the academic department of their major.
  • Assist in the certification of veteran education benefits as a School Certifying Official.           
Liaison:
  • Work closely with the academic departments and faculty mentors to ensure that students are taking correct courses for their major. 
  • Regularly attend department meetings and work individually with faculty and staff from appropriate offices to ensure that related academic by caseload of students are satisfactorily resolved. 
Outreach:
  • Facilitate outreach in the community and coordinate with community partners, community colleges, etc. for students interested in pursuing a college education.
Data Collelction:
  • Collect both quantitative and qualitative data related to each student, major and caseload.
  • Generate reports based on collected data.
  • Conduct program evaluations.
  • Report results of evaluation.
  • Contribute to end­ of-semester and annual reports on student success, persistence and retention.
Ancillary Duties: 
  • Serve on various University Committees. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights: Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Understands the impact of cultural and military service on learning. 
  • Must complete and maintain School Certifying Official credential with the Department of Veteran Affairs. 
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task in a faced paced environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with technology including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, communications, psychology, or social work. 
  • Demonstrated experience with VA education benefits and Tuition Assistance for Active-Duty Service Members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment and with a diverse population.
  • Experience in higher education. 
  • Demonstrated Experience with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
