Position Summary:

The mission of the University of Wisconsin (UW) Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) is to find ways to identify Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias early so we can prevent and treat the disease before symptoms occur. Military Veterans have unique risk factors that increase their risk of developing dementia. In this new position, the coordinator will serve as a research advocate with the ADRC to empower and encourage Veterans to engage in dementia research. The coordinator will work closely with the UW ADRC, VA Research Office, VA clinical dementia program leads, the VA Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) and will participate monthly in national virtual meetings with National Institute on Aging (NIA) and VA leadership and ADRC Veteran recruitment coordinators from other institutions across the US. In addition, the study coordinator will work closely with ADRC researchers to ensure that research study visits and processes are sensitive to Veteran experiences and needs.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required qualifications:
- Experience working with the Veteran community
- Experience in outreach, coaching and/or support group leadership

Preferred qualifications:
- Experience leading health related programs
- Experience with the Veterans Affairs (VA) medical system
- Experience working with older adults and persons from underrepresented communities

Additional Information:

Strong connections within the Veteran community and Madison VA hospital are beneficial but not required. The successful candidate will have good leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively with diverse research and clinical teams. They must also be adept at navigating cultural issues regarding veterans' participation in medical research.

This is a fixed-term terminal appointment that is expected to last for one year from date of hire. Extension for up to one additional year and/or conversion to a renewable appointment is possible.

Travel is required for this position. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver's license for Car Fleet usage.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every four years.
