Job Summary

The laboratory of new Assistant Professor Vignesh Kasinath in the Department of Biochemistry ( https://vigneshkasinath.org ) is encouraging applications for talented and motivated postdoctoral scholars interested in using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), and/or cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to decipher the structural and mechanistic role of large macromolecular assemblies in gene regulation.

The lab offers the opportunity to work directly with the PI on many research projects. Candidates with a strong interest in structural biology, cryo-EM, a track record of publications in biochemistry or biophysics and above all, the desire and ability to learn are encouraged to apply.

CU Boulder, besides being a phenomenal place to live, has a state-of-the art Titan Krios G3i with a Gatan K3 Direct Electron Detector Camera, FEI Tecnai F30 with a Gatan K2 Summit Direct Electron Detector Camera, FEI Tecnai F20 with a Gatan K3 Direct Electron Detector Camera, and a FEI Tecnai T12 Spirit with a 4k x 4k CCD camera. CU Boulder is also currently being set up as a NIH-centre for cryo-ET with the expected arrival of FEI Aquilos 2 cryo-FIB, Leica THUNDER CLEM, and Cryosol Vitrojet.

What We Require

Ph.D. in biochemistry or biophysics or molecular biology.

What You Will Need

  • Critical thinking and willingness to explore different ideas.
  • Expertise in molecular cloning and protein purification.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Expertise in one or more areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, or structural biology (NMR, X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM) is highly desired.
  • Experience with insect cell expression and mammalian cell culture would be highly advantageous but not necessary.
