Job Summary

The Director for the Office of First Generation Programs and Enrichment provides leadership in creating innovative educational campus-wide programming and supports first-generation students with resources to acclimate to collegiate academic requirements and to persist through graduation. This position reports to, and partners with, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Inclusion and Student Achievement to develop the vision, direction and actualization of an inclusive co-curricular learning environment, consults with campus entities to address inequities, participates on campus and community committees, and promotes inclusive excellence across campus.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Leadership and Assessment:
  • Plan and implement comprehensive programs and services to improve the academic and social success of underrepresented students with a focus on activities related to engagement, retention and graduation.
  • Create first-generation student leadership training/conference/programs that emphasize intersectionality.
  • Design, coordinate, and market program services for first-generation students; build and sustain a culture of identity celebration and recognition of excellence within the first-generation community. Coordinate and deliver programs to promote social change.
  • Track student academic progress and programmatic data, supporting campus climate data collection. Design and implement data collection, analysis and reporting to improve programs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to devise and implement process improvements and align programs to meet current and future needs.

Campus Representation and Strategic Partnerships:
  • Assist the AVC for ISA to envision, conceptualize, and communicate the diversity mission of the university.
  • Collaborate within ODECE, the Divisions of Students Affairs, Academic Affairs, Athletics, the Boulder community, etc., to create and implement sustainable innovative ground-breaking diverse workshops and services.
  • Represent CISC at internal and external student events.

Budget and Fiscal Operations:
  • Manage the budget and ensure the responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources, assessing monthly programming activities and associated expenses.
  • Provide timely/pertinent budgetary information including reports, data, publications, and budgets.

What We Can Offer

  • Anticipated starting salary is $71,000, commensurate with skills and experience.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of post-bachelor experience with campus-wide programming and advising first-generation and/or underrepresented students OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with budget and financial management.
  • Experience hiring, evaluating, supervising, and training staff.

  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and student development skills to interact effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students, parents, faculty, alumni, and university constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work optimally with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Proven track record of developing, coaching, supervising and managing professional staff.
  • Proven record of building strong working relationships, advising students and student organizations, developing programs, and coordinating and facilitating workshops.
  • Creativity, ability to navigate ambiguity, resourcefulness, initiative, and a high degree of motivation.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or related field, and three years of relevant full-time professional experience in post-secondary education administration including professional experience in program planning, assessment, budget formulation, staff supervision and decision-making.
  • Leadership experience in retention program development, diversity programming/education and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding issues and trends in higher education programs which focus on the retention needs of low-income first-generation, historically underrepresented, marginalized and/or or underserved college students.
  • Demonstrated experience with providing high impact campus-wide culturally engaging educational programs.
  • Five years of post-bachelor experience with campus-wide programming and advising first-generation and/or underrepresented students.
