Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology invites applications for our Office 365 Senior Administrator - Microsoft Security and Compliance. This position will lead advanced application administration, advanced technical support, and new and/or upgraded service implementations. This role is also responsible for ensuring the availability of critical messaging and collaboration services by providing performance management, capacity planning, change management, monitoring, guidance and service disruption response. This position will also provide core expertise for the Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance toolset, Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365 SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams.

As a member of the Messaging and Collaboration (M&C) Team you will be part of the delivery of MS365 services to stakeholders throughout the Boulder campus and will work in partnership with other campuses.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Architecture, delivery, and operations of the Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance tools, including:
  • Helping stakeholders with the design, development and deployment of M&C solutions that help meet security and compliance requirements.
  • Monitoring production, test and development environments to ensure M&C availability and reliability and assuring that continuously evolving business requirements and service improvements are met.
  • Building and maintaining strong stakeholder and vendor relationships.
  • Participating in OIT projects with M&C components in a variety of roles including lead analyst, architect/designer; implementer, and integrator.
  • Overseeing service documentation necessary for M&C administration, maintenance, and configuration, change management, issue resolution, user communication.


What You Should Know

The position may be 100% remote with occasional trip to the CU Boulder campus.

In this role you will participate in a formal on-call rotation with definitive response times; the likelihood of the on-call employee having to come on-site to respond/manage the issue/incident is low. When not on call, you will be expected to respond in a reasonable (though not definitive) amount of time when called outside working hours regarding issues and incidents that arise.

What We Can Offer

  • Base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000.

What We Require
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in computer science, computer information systems, or related field. A combination of education and/or related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years of professional experience as a Microsoft365 administrator including collaboration tools, and licensing.
  • One year of professional experience with Microsoft’s Security and Compliance Toolset resulting with familiarity with:
    • M365 Security and Compliance Score
    • Security Proof of Concept
    • Microsoft Cloud App Security (MCAS)
    • Microsoft Threat Protection (MTP)
    • Microsoft Advanced Information Protection (AIP)
    • Core Enablement (AAD Hybrid Connection)
  • One years of professional experience with Azure AD (e.g. conditional access, group management).

  • Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to gain a clear understanding of technical issues combined with the ability to use this information to determine the most appropriate urgency and course of action.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple and concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and efficiency in each task.
  • Strong analytical, prioritization, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrable skills as a collaborator, with the ability to influence peers and senior management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated to maintain critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.


What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with research compliance framework (e.g. export control, ITAR, EAR).
  • Experience with creating and editing advanced PowerShell scripts.
