Job Description Summary

The Department of Animal Sciences at Auburn University is seeking applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position, in Animal Genomics at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate will have a 60% research and 40% instruction appointment. The projected start date is August 1, 2021.
Responsibilities: This position carries the expectation for excellence in research productivity, scholarship, teaching, and student mentoring commensurate with the land grant mission at Auburn University. Research priorities for this position will focus on the challenges and opportunities in the production of food animals. The research program should emphasize in high-throughput genome analysis, bioinformatics, gene network analysis and/or genetic modification with applications relating to food animal production, health, and/or disease resistance. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program involving interdisciplinary collaboration. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, cell and molecular biology, functional genomics, and/or the microbiome. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other scientists within, but not limited to, the Colleges of Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and/or Human Sciences, Alabama Agricultural Experiment Stations, and industry towards development of an animal genomics program. The incumbent will teach an undergraduate-level foundation course in animal breeding. Departmental, college, and university committee service is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Animal Science/Genetics or a related field by the position start date. Ideally, the selected individual will have experience and training in genome/transcriptome sequencing, functional genomics, and/or bioinformatics, and the ability to independently develop and conduct research in this area. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research and/or teaching resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required. The selected individual must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

We seek individuals with postdoctoral research experience and evidence of extramural funding efforts. Experience in developing new and/or teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in animal breeding and genetics and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels is also desired.
