Teaching Assistant Professor of Sport Management – College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences



The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS) at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Sport Management within the Department of Sport Sciences. CPASS serves approximately 1,500 students across 14 degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Our mission focuses on conducting and disseminating high-quality research, preparing students to be leaders and innovators in their fields, and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of our state through outreach efforts. The Sport Management program offers B.S. and M.S. (Online and on-campus) degree options. We are looking for a highly qualified individual who can contribute to this mission by working with other faculty, learners, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative scholarly environment.


Appointment:

August 13, 2021 - This is a promotable, non-tenure track teaching position with no research expectations. Additional summer teaching opportunities are available.


Responsibilities: The specific responsibilities for the position include:
  • Teach 24 credits (8 classes) in the sport management program each year. Courses taught will be part of the undergraduate and/or graduate sport management curriculum. Some courses will be taught in the online program.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate sport management students, and provide service to the program.
  • Serve on appropriate University and College-wide committees.


Qualifications :

An earned doctoral degree in sport management or closely related area. ABDs will be considered, but terminal degree must be conferred by the time of appointment start date. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of innovative and effective teaching at the college level that warrants appointment at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Course instruction within this program uses both in-person and online structures and is expected to continue using these formats. In addition, applicants must be able to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels that may include Introduction to Sport Management, Sport Management Processes, Sport Marketing & Sales, Sport Governance, Sport Facility and Event Management, Sport Finance and Economics, Sport in the Global Market, and Liability and Sport. The above qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
