Postdoctoral Associate - Virology, Innate Immunity and Cancer Biology (66845)
The Molecular Virology Laboratory (Directed by Zhe Ma, Ph.D.) within the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Florida is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral associates to contribute to ongoing NIH funded studies investigating the molecular basis of interactions between KSHV (Kaposi’s sarcoma associated herpesvirus) related diseases and host innate immunity.
Kaposi’s sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is a DNA virus leading to several malignancies in the human population including Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS), multicentric Castleman’s disease (MCD), and primary effusion lymphoma (PEL). Our lab is interested in the interplay between the innate immune system, KSHV, and KSHV-associated cancers. Our long term goal is to develop better therapies to treat not only KSHV related malignancies, but also broaden our knowledge to other viral cancers.
Our research projects involve diverse experimental techniques ranging from Molecular biology, Cell culture models, to in vivo animal models. Briefly, the Ma lab utilizes multiple techniques such as molecular cloning, DNA/RNA amplification/purification, protein knockdown/knockout, qPCR/RT-qPCR, luciferase reporter assays, Virus amplification/purification/genome mutation, and in vivo mouse model, etc.
Due to the oncogenic characteristics of KSHV, a postdoctoral associate in our lab will perform research covering virology, cancer biology, and immunology, which provides more potential for future career development. Postdoctoral associates in our lab will receive sufficient training by the PI and collaborating investigators in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. Also, postdoctoral associates in our lab will be supported to develop their new research projects. Support will also be provided to attend scientific conferences to present work and provide networking opportunities.
