Assistant/Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology (66753)

The University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure-track position (Assistant or Associate Professor) in Radiation Oncology. Teaching responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction in the professional curriculum as well supervising radiation rotations of medical oncology residents, interns and the surgical oncology fellow as part of their respective training programs. Participation in the clinical service in the UF Veterinary Hospital includes receiving and management of radiation oncology cases, consultations with practicing veterinarians, participating in the growth of this service and continuing education.

The successful candidate will join a team of three medical oncologists, one radiation oncologist, and two surgical oncologists. Features of the hospital include a 1.5T MRI (Toshiba Titan®), helical CT (Toshiba Prime®), gamma camera, ten operating rooms, C-arm fluoroscopy, portable radiography, state of the art laparoscopy/thoracoscopy and interventional radiology suite. A state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory equipped with a Toshiba Infinix-i® single plane digital C-arm is housed in the 100,000 square foot Small Animal Veterinary Hospital.

The University of Florida has recently signed a contract to purchase a top of the line Varian Edge linear accelerator, which will be installed within the next 12 months. Installation of this equipment will keep the University of Florida at the leading edge of patient care and research in veterinary radiation therapy for years to come. Medical physics support is provided by the McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Florida College of Medicine under the direction of Dr. Frank Bova and staff. There are one radiation oncology resident, one highly experienced certified radiation therapist and two radiation oncology nurses that support radiation oncology service.

Development of an independent or collaborative research program in an area of radiation oncology is expected. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within the College and with the UF College of Medicine (Shands Cancer Center) and McKnight Brain Institute (including Comparative Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program). The oncology service also offers various studies and clinical trials and is a member of the Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC). The successful candidate will have access to a well-equipped comparative oncology research lab and be eligible to compete for competitive intramural and endowed research funds.
