Mission or Goal of Unit

Virginia Commonwealth University RRTC’s Center on Transition Innovations and the RRTC on the Employment of Transition-Age Youth with Disabilities Unit provides evidence-based resources and information along with emerging practices to assist individuals with disabilities obtain postsecondary education and employment opportunities.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center, School of Education, is seeking experienced candidates for the Director of Research and Evaluation who will focus on the development, implementation and analyses for all evaluation and research studies conducted by CTI and the Transition RRTC . The Director will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop research and evaluation protocols to meet all required data collection and analyses of Center activities. The Director will also work collaboratively with colleagues in the development of reports, research briefs, and other related products on the results of the research and evaluation activities. The position requires extensive experience in conducting research and evaluation especially in the field of secondary education transition and disability. The Director must have experience in writing manuscripts for peer-review journals and delivering data results national and state conferences in addition to experience with grant writing to secure funds for continued research activities.

Position Responsibilities

The Director of Research and Evaluation will write and deliver presentations through webinars. conferences, or virtual courses, conduct evaluation and research activities using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. This position requires knowledge of and the ability to monitor and report on completion of research and evaluation activities and to disseminate their results to grant funders, stakeholder groups, and other researchers in the field of secondary education transition and disability, and write for peer reviewed professional journals on research results and their implications for the field. The Director of Research and Evaluation will maintain an active scholarly agenda through writing, publishing, presenting at conferences, and obtaining external funding to advance their research agenda, and engaging in service to the RRTC, School of Education, university, community agencies, and state/national professional organizations. Additionally, this position will represent VCU and CTI to the public, key stakeholders, and other professional organizations, create and establish collaborative working relationships and networking with other researchers in the disability field to advance the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities in higher education, employment and the community at large. And lastly, develop IRB applications and submit reports on progress toward meeting goals, objectives and outcomes of funded projects.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. from an accredited college/university in social/behavioral sciences, rehabilitation, or education with extensive coursework in research and evaluation.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience conducting research and evaluation.

Strong interpersonal, analytic written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information and to ensure that information is shared with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.

Proficiency with higher-level statistics, such as linear/logistic regression and latent variable modeling, and non-parametric statistics.

Experience in qualitative and quantitative research design, including mixed methods, quasi-experimental design, and randomized control trial.

Experience with survey development, including, but not limited to collecting reliability and validity evidence, conducting a factor analysis, etc.

Understanding of current literature on secondary education transition outcomes of students with disabilities.

Experience working with large, national databases related to the disability field.

Expertise in conducting focus groups and in-depth individual interviews.

Demonstrated experience and understanding of the IRB approval process.

Demonstrated success with obtaining grant funding and manuscript development.

Ability to manage multiple projects and requests and prioritize work tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner.

Ability to work independently and with collaborative teams, while meeting deadlines.

Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills.

Experience working in higher education settings, including direct experience working in grant-funded organizations within a university setting.

Ability to present technical reports and findings to various audiences, such as consumer groups, family members, and individuals with disabilities.

Demonstrated experience working on research or evaluation activities involving individuals with disabilities, secondary education professionals, agency representatives, family members, and other stakeholders in the transition field.

The ability to anticipate project member’s needs, provide clear explanations, and respond quickly to requests

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Experience with data visualization.

Experience with strategic planning.

Knowledge of state and national Indicator #14 data.

Experience working with institutions of higher education, including 2-and 4-year colleges and universities.
