TheO’Neill Center for Academic Developmentat St. Catherine University invites applications for anAccess Consultant/Disability Specialist. TheAccess Consultant/Disability Specialistsupports the provision of a wide range of services to a large caseload of students with a variety of disabilities, including the coordination of accommodation requests. The O’Neill Center provides support to all students, including collaborative learning solutions that accommodate students’ diverse learning styles, and partnering with faculty to address learning challenges. This is a regular, full-time position.

Responsibilities:


  • Serve as a valued resource to staff and faculty and advise faculty on best practices for working with students with disabilities
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues as well as faculty and staff across the university, to fulfill the mission of the center and the university
  • Provide individualized support to students through one on one meetings with students to identify barriers to their learning, and work with campus partners to address barriers
  • Develop Academic Accommodations, Residence Hall accommodations, Emotional Support Animal accommodations, and Meal plan accommodations and communicate the accommodation to appropriate stakeholders
  • Refer students to other offices on campus as well as to outside resources
  • Assist in the coordination of accommodation needs, including scheduling American Sign language (ASL) interpreters or live-captioning services, processing textbook conversion requests, processing requests for notetakers, etc.
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities, affirming the worth and preserving the dignity of individuals, families, and communities

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field
  • Two years of experience working with students
  • Knowledge of a range of disabilities including but not limited to: Attention Deficit Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Psychiatric conditions, Physical and Sensory disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injuries, etc.
  • Experience applying Federal law as it pertains to individuals with disabilities
  • Experience serving students of diverse backgrounds, including:LGBTQIA,BIPOC, varying religious beliefs, individuals with disabilities, etc.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and basic knowledge of assistive technology software

  • Graduate degree
  • Two years of experience working one on one with post-secondary students
  • Knowledge of accommodation needs specific to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
  • American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency
