We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistical Sciences beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year.
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mathematics education at the rank of Assistant Professor pending budget or programmatic approval. All areas of mathematics education background will be considered. The appointment involves teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as active research, service, and grant activities. The successful candidate will engage with students, faculty, and staff along with local and regional education professionals.
The SMSS is part of the College of Sciences at UTRGV. With over 182 faculty and 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students, the College of Sciences takes pride in preparing students for diverse careers via many educational programs, including the Nation's largest UTeach program that prepares Math and Science majors for careers as educators at the middle and secondary school levels.

Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or in a closely related area from an accredited university, with at least 18 graduate hours in a mathematics content area. Ph.D. candidates will be considered, but the degree should be awarded no later than the proposed starting date.

We seek applicants with (a) a strong background in mathematics content; (b) a math education background at the graduate level and/or evidence of active research in math education; © experience teaching and conducting research and service with women and underrepresented minority groups; (d) experience integrating technology into instruction, or skills to use alternative delivery models; (e) strong statistical preparation/quantitative research focus.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
