Scope of Job:
The Department of Sociology seeks applications for a non-tenure-track, 3-year-renewable faculty position in Emergency Management, Disaster Studies, Sociology, or related field. Preference, though not sole consideration, will be given to candidates able to teach courses in emergency management, preparedness, mitigation, response, and/or recovery. The appointment at the level of Lecturer I will begin Fall 2021. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the Department's Disaster Studies MA program, Sociology MS program, and undergraduate Sociology program. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selected candidates will be required to provide official transcripts from all degree-granting universities. Home to 16 full-time and part-time faculty, the Department of Sociology offers several programs of study, including a BA in Sociology, MS in Sociology, MA in Disaster Studies, and a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management and Sustainability. Minimum Qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in Sociology, Emergency Management, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (but must have at least 18 hours of graduate credit in Sociology). ABDs will be considered, but a conferred doctorate by September 1, 2021 is required for appointment. 2) A commitment to teaching excellence.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
ยง51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
All UTRGV employees are required to have a criminal background check (CBC). CBCs will be conducted for all candidates invited for an on-campus interview.
