Biomedical Microbiology - Assistant Professor
The Department of Biological Sciences, College of Sciences, Old Dominion University, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with a focus in microbiology and host pathogen interactions related to human health. Preference will be given to applicants who can collaborate with current faculty including research in microbiome, tickborne diseases, or other vector-borne diseases. A successful candidate must establish and maintain a vigorous research program that is relevant to human health and will attract peer reviewed funding. In addition, the candidate is expected to provide excellent education to our graduate and undergraduate students. All applicants must have a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in an appropriate field. Interactions are encouraged with other departments/units of the College and the University as well as with the Eastern Virginia Medical School. The Department of Biological Sciences receives substantial support from state funds as well as from federal and other granting agencies. The Department currently has around 75 students enrolled in the Ph.D. and M.S. graduate program within the Department and the Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences within the Graduate School.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain active research programs that are externally funded, teach undergraduate and graduate courses (both online and on-campus), and contribute to service in the department. The position will share in teaching of the high-demand courses in microbiology and medical microbiology as well as courses required by the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. Candidates who are prepared to engage in interdisciplinary research are especially welcome.
