The Department of Communication Arts seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position for the Mass Media program beginning August 1, 2021.  All Valdosta State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching courses at multiple levels as needed in their respective disciplines, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The VSU Mass Media program is one of six programs, including a master’s degree within the Department of Communication Arts. The program has ten full-time faculty and close to 300 majors. Responsibilities:

The position will deliver introductory and upper-level courses in Mass Media including mass media studies, media writing, media and culture, media theory and criticism. The typical teaching load is four courses per semester. Other teaching assignments are possible based on qualifications and experience. Graduate teaching possible. Course delivery methods may include traditional, online, hyflex, hybrid, or off-campus formats.  Faculty members are to make substantive contributions to the Department, including mentoring, departmental and university service, professional, and community service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Mass Media or closely related field by appointment date;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience;
  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
  • A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.

The VSU College of the Arts includes the Department of Art & Design, the Department of Music, and the Department of Communication Arts (Communication, Emergent Media, Mass Media, Public Relations, Theatre & Dance).
