Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs
The Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut invites applicants for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs. We seek individuals with relevant experience in leadership and scholarship to support the Neag School’s mission to improve educational and social systems to be more effective, equitable, and just for all. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate for this position will provide leadership for the Neag School research enterprise and faculty affairs, including oversight and management of relevant activities. The Associate Dean will supervise support staff, including research administrators. Key responsibilities of the position are outlined below. The position includes an appointment in one of three departments in the Neag School: Curriculum and Instruction (edci.education.uconn.edu), Educational Leadership (edlr.education.uconn.edu), or Educational Psychology (epsy.education.uconn.edu). The Associate Dean position reports directly to the Dean.
- Develop and enact a plan including strategies and programs to enhance the research climate and provide opportunities in the Neag School for faculty, staff, and students to expand their research skills, funding sources, and productivity
- Serve as a resource and facilitator for Neag School faculty and staff who are considering writing grants, have operational questions concerning funded grants, or are encountering problems or difficulties with grant-related activities
- Work with the University Office of the Vice Provost for Research and with Sponsored Program Services on behalf of the Neag School faculty and staff
- Provide periodic grant reporting to the Dean
- Develop and lead the implementation of inclusive, equity-oriented community-building, networking, and professional development programming for faculty (new, tenure-earning, tenure-line, non-tenure line)
- Observe and review climate and morale, and work collaboratively with the Dean and others in the Neag School to develop responses and initiatives to maintain and enhance positive climate and morale
- Oversee, review, evaluate, and address personnel needs and issues in collaboration with Department Heads, Associate/Assistant Dean, Dean, Provost Office, and/or Human Resources
- An earned doctorate in education or closely related field
- Demonstrated record of securing external funding (e.g., IES, NSF, etc.)
- Established record of research, teaching, and service that merits appointment as a tenured faculty member at the senior level (advanced associate or professor) in a department in the Neag School
- At least three (3) years of administrative leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior faculty, researchers, and students
- Administrative experience related to personnel matters
- Strong record of research productivity (e.g., publications, citations, invited presentations)
- Evidence of national or international leadership in their disciplinary field
- Demonstrated experience developing or leading a collaborative research initiative
- Demonstrated record of securing funding from federal agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH, IES) and national foundations, including service as a principal investigator on some of these projects
- Experience in supporting fundraising or revenue-generating activities that enhance the resource base for a unit
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituencies (e.g., developed MOUs with external agencies, developed working group)
- Experience working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience designing and leading research development initiatives focused on mentoring faculty, graduate students, and staff in research and grant development
This is a full-time, five-year appointment position with the opportunity for renewal with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2021. Earlier start dates will be considered. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of work at UConn’s regional campuses across the state. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
