ABOUT THE OFFICE OF DIGITAL EDUCATION

Digital Education is a strategic priority for Michigan Ross. Ross’ vision for Digital Education challenges faculty across the school to creatively deploy and purposefully experiment with technology to enable personalized education for future and current Ross students, as well as lifelong learning for the entire Ross alumni community. The Office of Digital Education is responsible for bringing this vision to life through three critical school functions: digital asset creation; digital program development and delivery; and assurance of learning across the school. All members of the Office of Digital Education collaborate to support this vision and these functions.

Purpose

The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan is seeking a Digital Media Designer who can work in a multi-disciplinary team to bring to life strategies, stories and ideas. This person is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a variety of digital media ranging from podcast to virtual reality. This position will report to and work closely with the Production Manager, Office of Digital Education to create and incubate a collection of new, exciting, and groundbreaking digital offerings.

Responsibilities* Digital Media Design/Delivery

  • Act as a creative lead for digital media production (podcasts/video casts)
  • Create, record, and edit digital media for online transmission
  • Source all relevant resources, including equipment, content, and guests
  • Conceptualize, create, and prepare media of different styles that support all disciplines at Ross
  • Collaborate with the video production team on the creation and production of video assets
  • Film and direct on-site and in-studio video content for curricular and co-curricular use
  • Collaborate with Ross faculty to ideate on digital asset creations and identify opportunities to incorporate multimedia and video components
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new practices and tools and apply learnings to related research (e.g., contribute to publication of findings as needed, participate in the preparation of written documents, include procedures, presentations, and proposals)
  • Film, facilitate, and direct in-studio synchronous digital teaching sessions
  • Contribute to content quality, control, evaluation and oversight
  • Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree and three or more years of related experience
  • Extensive experience in sound and video editing
  • Demonstrated experience empathizing with a variety of diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of higher education environment
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in project management and people management including successful launch and implementation of new initiatives
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and problem solving, as well as the ability to act independently
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload under time constraints and conflicting demands
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment
  • Ability to storyboard ideas for approval
  • Experience with Adobe Cloud and Apple software to create motion graphics
  • Extensive experience across a variety of media including a fluency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; additional skills in Sketch, After Effects, and digital prototyping tools
  • Excellent understanding of file formats and codecs used in video production
  • Ongoing commitment to improving skills, acquiring new technical knowledge, and staying current with innovative design trends
  • Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in new program development in the higher education environment
  • International radio and television production experience  
  • Additional Information Physical Demands/Work Environment 

  • Requires the ability to travel to various locations to conduct work and deliver materials
  • The person in this position routinely presents information at events
  • The person in this position occasionally moves through the facility to attend meetings/events and access files or information
  • Will require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends
