Department Chairperson/Associate Professor

The Department of Counseling at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is seeking an experienced faculty member, at the associate or professor level, who may also serve as chairperson for our strong and energetic Counseling Department team.  The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to a diverse team of counselor educators, staff, and students across three concentration areas; Clinical Mental Health (CACREP), School Counseling (CACREP) and a Student Affairs in Higher Education program. The Department Chairperson is a full-time, 12-month position as faculty and academic administrator who reports to the Dean of the College of Education. The individual will provide leadership and long-term planning for the Counseling Department.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) at UNO is located in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska, a metropolitan area with a population of approximately 940,000. Duties and Responsibilities:     

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: a) providing leadership and long-term planning for the Counseling Department, b) enrollment management, recruitment and retention; assure delivery of high quality education, c) serve as the CACREP-liaison who manages and submits high quality CACREP/NDE/CEHHS reports and maintains all other accreditation and ethical standards, d) teach core counseling courses (classroom/online), e) conduct faculty and staff meetings and evaluations, f) administrative activities related to course scheduling and graduate catalogue updates; lead course revision and program changes, g) provide administrative and clinical leadership to the UNO’s state of the art in-house community counseling clinic, h) maintain an active agenda of research and creative activity (including external funding) while collaborating with departmental colleague, i) maintain an active professional service agenda; and supervise staff, graduate assistants and student workers, j) advise prospective and current students, and k) develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners in k-12 schools, community-based mental and behavioral health organizations.

Qualifications:  

Doctoral degree required. PhD in Counseling, Education and Supervision is preferred, or must be eligible as CACREP Core faculty. Eligible for Nebraska licensed mental health practitioner and/or school counseling certification. Counseling and administrative experience required.

The successful candidate must show evidence of experience with, and knowledge of, CACREP standards. Must provide evidence of scholarly/creative activity commensurate with rank of associate or professor; evidence of professional service, and a strong record of counselor identity is required.

Desirable Qualifications:          
Prior leadership/administrative experience in counselor education, verifiable licensure/certification for Nebraska counseling credentials, and proven ability to teach in a CACREP-accredited program; evidence of an active research agenda, professional service, and acquisition of external funding.

Rank and Salary:          
Associate/Full Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
