General Summary/Purpose

The Assistant Director assists with the overall day-to-day management of the university’s conduct system and for leading the efforts to educate students about community standards of conduct. Supervised by the Director of Student Conduct, the Assistant Director assists with investigation and adjudicating all student misconduct violations of the Student Conduct Code as well as the KSAS and WSE undergraduate academic violations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with the day-to-day implementation and operation of the student conduct and academic integrity processes.

Serve as a university conduct administrator, reviewing, investigating, adjudicating, and managing conduct cases, including serious violations that lead to suspension or expulsion from the university for students and student organizations.

Conduct informational & investigative meetings, and administrative hearings for students or student groups who are referred for ethics, residential, and Student Conduct Code misconduct.

Ensure accurate, consistent correspondence is produced pertaining to student disciplinary cases and ethics violations.

Serve as the lead coordinator for major investigations of critical incidents; preparing correspondence and scripts, scheduling and coordinating large group investigative meetings with multiple investigators and providing a final investigative report with recommendations.

Collaborate with campus partners and other stakeholders to provide a comprehensive menu of educational and developmental resources for sanctioning

Assist in the development and implementation of a full spectrum of conflict resolution options, including conflict coaching, facilitated dialogue, mediation, conciliation, and restorative practices.

Oversee recruitment efforts, selection process, and training for the Student Conduct Board, Undergraduate Academic Ethics Board, and Integrity Ambassador Program.

Serve as Advisor for board hearings; preparing correspondence and scripts, scheduling hearings, and communicating with faculty and staff to follow up on hearing outcomes.

Establish and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to Office of Dean of Student Life, Campus Safety and Security, Office of Institutional Equity, Athletics, Academic Partners, and Counseling Center.

Partner with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to development and facilitate the training of the FSL Judicial Board.

Facilitate outreach, awareness programs, presentations, and educational opportunities for students and their families, faculty, and staff including but not limited to academic ethics and conduct system; student ethical behavior; student rights and responsibilities; decision making; community responsibilities; and conflict resolution.

Assist with data tracking to contribute to the assessment of the conduct processes, and report data as requested.

Demonstrate knowledge of university policies, current state/federal laws related to student conduct including FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, and the Clery Act.

Assist in the production of University documents, such as, manuals, forms, publications, and/or reports.

Conduct research and benchmarking activities and assist with policy revisions.

Represent Student Conduct and Student Affairs on committees and in general to the campus community; participates in professional associations and seminars, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

Bachelor’s Degree.

Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field preferred.

Three to five years’ experience in student affairs division in higher education.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong writing and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of federal laws, state laws, and mandates including Title IX of the Higher Education Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, American Disabilities Act, Higher Education Act of America, Jeanne Clery Act, and the Drug-Free Schools Act.

Experience working in an institution of higher education, especially in a student affairs role.

Awareness of the current issues in higher education.

Ability to thrive and bring order and direction to ambiguous situations.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise discretion and mature judgment and manage multiple priorities at once.

Ability to work well with a variety of people in assessing system strengths and weaknesses.

Strong organization and time management skills.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to partner cross-functionally with other departments.

Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, evaluate and summarize data.

Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality with all student academic and nonacademic records.

Flexible, highly skilled and independent position able to handle other appropriate matters as assigned.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
