Evening Services Librarian in the Daniel Library

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Evening Services Librarian in the Daniel Library. This position will work until 10:30PM Sunday-Thursday, and 9:00 PM in the summer. This role is to bring a positive and creative approach to problem solving, serving as a collaborative colleague and partner in relationship building. Must be able to have a strong presence in the campus community, building and maintaining close relationships with faculty and students in order to meet their teaching, learning, research, and publication needs. This position ­­includes instruction and reference to engage students in the learning process by providing instruction sessions, workshops, and online guides and tutorials. They will provide individual research assistance, including consultations, and participate in collection development. They will serve as liaison to campus groups and academic disciplines. This is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenured faculty position.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Work in a team environment, with a focus on continuously enhancing the user experience
  • Provide research and technology assistance through individual consultations at the Research and Information Desk, through virtual reference services, and during library instruction sessions
  • Maintain contact with liaison area faculty members to provide services, information, and collection development
  • Develop online library LibGuides for general and specific course curriculum
  • Teach instructional sessions at all degree levels, to include the freshman orientation courses
  • Participate in campus-wide and in-house library assessment programs


Additionally, ongoing professional development in the areas of instruction, technology, and reference skills is expected. Promotion is dependent upon continuing library service effectiveness, professional growth and development, scholarship, and service to the college and community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library/Information Science
  • Minimum of one year of higher education library instruction and reference experience, or its equivalent
  • Strong computing, communication, interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues in a collaborative team-based organization and flexibility in adapting to change
  • Experience troubleshooting basic computer printer issues


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience instructing students in the use of library information resources, and presenting information literacy concepts
  • Passion for, and dedication to students and faculty outreach
  • Experience with creating online general and course specific library tutorials which can be embedded in Blackboard
  • Proficiency in library information technology or desire to learn
  • Subject specific knowledge or interest
  • Familiar with Mac & PC, Adobe Creative Cloud, LibApps, and various MakerSpace technologies
