The College of Education has approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students in four departments. The College has 9 Professional Development Schools and recently launched the Center for Access, Success, and Equity (CASE), which houses the PhD in Education. The College of Education provides direct services and supports to the Rowan University Community and the broader community through the Early Childhood Demonstration Center, Special Education Assessment Center, and Reading Clinic.

The department offers an undergraduate Literacy Studies major for both early childhood education and in elementary education, as well as an endorsement in reading for early and elementary childhood majors. Post-baccalaureate programs include Bilingual/Bicultural Education Endorsement and the Teacher of Reading Endorsement. We offer Masters degree programs in Reading Education, Urban Education and a specialization in the PhD in Education program. We also offer Certificates of Graduate Studies in Reading, English as a Second Language, and Urban Education.

The Department of Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Education is seeking a high quality candidate with skills aligned to the College’s commitment to addressing issues of access, success, and equity in P-20 education.

Duties include the equivalent of twelve semester hours of undergraduate and graduate courses, in-person and online, in literacy education for prospective K-12 classroom teachers or reading specialists, with an emphasis on teaching in a new collaborative undergraduate major in literacy studies. In addition, the position will also include clinic responsibilities including day-to-day management of the reading clinic with primary duties in the areas of administration, outreach, training and evaluation.

This is a full-time, non-tenure track, three-year position (renewable). The successful candidate will be expected to participate in department and college committees and activities.

Required :

  • A Master Degree or terminal degree (ED.D/Ph.D) in Literacy Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • A minimum of three years of public school successful teaching
  • Reading Specialist certification OR graduate courses in diagnosis and corrections of reading difficulties
  • Clinical experience with children who have reading difficulties
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and service in education in the areas of literacy and reading education
  • Experience in assessing and teaching students with diverse backgrounds
  • Willingness to teach both face-to-face and online formats in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in field supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment devoted to collaboration, diversity, scholarly inquiry, student learning, civic responsibility, and respect for all people
  • A teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of the College of Education
