The Sculpture/Dimensional Studies Division, within the School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, seeks an exceptional artist and educator for a full­ time tenure track faculty position in mixed media sculpture, beginning the 2021-22 academic year.


The Sculpture/Dimensional Studies Division seeks a dynamic artist who will participate in shaping the future of Sculpture at Alfred. The successful candidate will become part of a progressive, distinguished, and nationally recognized sculpture program and will have the opportunity to develop programing, curricula, and facilities in collaboration with other sculpture faculty. A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and teaching is expected. We are seeking an artist educator with a wide range of experience in current sculptural practices and working at the intersection of one or more of the following: installation, performance, paper and/ or fiber arts.


Teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, advising individual research and professional practices at the senior and graduate levels, and design of future curriculum and programing. Other responsibilities include collaborating with other faculty, technicians, and students to maintain the sculpture facilities, active engagement in professional research, and contribution to the faculty governance of the school.

Program Information:

The Sculpture/Dimensional Studies Division (SDS) is one of six divisions at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University.

  • The Sculpture/Dimensional Studies Program consists of six full-time faculty, three full­ time technicians and three part-time technicians.
  • The Sculpture/ Dimensional Studies Division curriculum draws on a diversity of conceptual and technical approaches to offer an expansive educational experience.
  • The Sculpture/ Dimensional Studies Program at Alfred University offers a comprehensive education in contemporary sculptural practice. Our curriculum is transdisciplinary and utilizes open access to our exceptional facilities as a source for challenging, thoughtful, and expansive research. Our learning community is dedicated to building a shared base of knowledge that supports each student's individual development and prepares them to be active creative members of the world.
  • The Sculpture/ Dimensional Studies Division is committed to evolving our program and curricula to foster equity, inclusion, and social justice. We are a community dedicated to learning as well as teaching, and we value diversity of ideas and experience as key components of our student-centered program.
  • The division operates facilities in mixed media, papermaking, metal fabrication, woodworking, hot and cold glass, mold-making, casting, neon and light. In addition, the Division of Sculpture/ Dimensional Studies is home to the National Casting Center, a set of facilities focused on the exploration of cast glass and cast metal foundry.


  • An MFA in art and/or design, or equivalent.
  • The successful candidate will have an active exhibition record and established recognition as an artist and educator.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the department, the school, the university, and the community.
  • Experience in program and curriculum develop, and minimum three years teaching experience or equivalent is required.
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience.
