Candidates are expected to have a record of excellence in research, as demonstrated by a record of high-quality publications (or publications forthcoming) in top-ranked, field-relevant journals, significant conference presentations, a research statement demonstrating a robust agenda of current and future research, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue independent and innovative research at a competitive, international level and to establish an outstanding research program of sufficient quality to attract external funding.

Evidence of experience and excellence in university teaching is required, as demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application. Candidates must demonstrate an interest and preparedness to teach compelling courses in disability studies at the graduate level. Experience supervising the work of graduate students is an asset.

Responsibilities of the position may include but are not limited to: developing and maintaining an active research and publishing agenda in relevant fields; seeking external research funding; teaching/developing courses to address the needs of a diverse student body including students enrolled in SJE graduate degree programs and in OISE’s Master of Teaching (MT) program; supervising graduate student research; service to SJE and OISE; and working collaboratively with related units across OISE and the University of Toronto.
