EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ALUMNI RELATIONS

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking an Executive Director - Alumni Relations. Reporting directly to the VP, Institutional Advancement (IA), the Executive Director - Alumni Relations provides the overall vision, strategic planning, management, and execution of an alumni engagement program that effectively develops and strengthens short and long-term meaningful relationships with alumni. The Executive Director will introduce a new, energetic, creative, and systematic approach to alumni engagement, both in-person and online. Outreach and programming are expected to bring UVU to a new and significantly more engaged relationship with alumni of the university.

The Executive Director - Alumni Relations will work closely with colleagues within IA and across the university to achieve success within Alumni Relations. Specific university partners include deans and other colleges, schools, and program leaders, as well as the President's Office and Marketing and Communications. The Executive Director also oversees the Alumni Association Board of Directors and is part of the Institutional Advancement leadership team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides vision and strategy for programs designed to increase affinity and engagement between alumni, students, parents, friends, and UVU through marketing and communications channels, events, activities, and benefits, including working with deans to engage alumni regularly and develop alumni support for the colleges and schools. Sets clear and measurable goals, and oversees the alumni relations staff who plan and implement programs and events to effectively engage alumni and others with the mission of the university and encourage their support.
2. Plans, directs, implements, and assesses overarching strategy, goals, programs, and the daily operation and activities of the university alumni association and student alumni association programs. Ensures that the programs follow national best practices and meet the university's near and long-term goals. Coordinates with Advancement Services to ensure accurate and useable alumni data. Uses data and business intelligence to gauge the effectiveness of activities in enhancing alumni relations and participation. Advances and increases the visibility of the community college mission on campus, within the community, and across the state through advocacy, coordination with relevant stakeholders, and effective marketing.
3. Drives alumni communications and outreach efforts, working closely with the IA Strategic Marketing and Communications Department, and with the university's central Marketing and Communications division. Regularly disseminates information to alumni, implements creative ways to communicate with alumni and connect them to one another, and links alumni with current students for networking, mentoring, and employment. Serves as a contributing partner to the UVU Magazine and suggests content, editing, and/or writing content for alumni-specific pages. Addresses regional educational and workforce needs through the identification of relevant data and advisory board input to inform the review, assessment, effectiveness, and sustainability of current programs and facilitate the development of new community college degree opportunities in coordination with academic departments.
4. Oversees functions of the Alumni Association Board and its committees, working closely with board and committee chairs. Recruits, trains, and manages board members; guides committee assignments and tasks; and assists the board in setting clear and measurable goals. Ensure 100% giving by members of the board. Develops and implements a coordinated plan for recruitment, increased access, enrollment growth, outreach, retention, and completion through data collection and analysis, coordinating with academic departments, supporting and shaping institutional student success initiatives, and facilitating student achievement in developmental education and certificate, diploma, AA/AS, and AAS degree programs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in a directly related field, plus four years of experience related to the summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the position, or a bachelor’s degree in a directly related field, plus six years of relevant experience or any combination of higher education and/or experience totaling ten years.

The successful candidate must have strong integrity, high energy, and proven achievement, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal relationship and team-building skills. Candidates must have a proven ability to interpret and apply complex information, policy, and procedures. Equally significant qualifications include being highly collegial and consultative, and having a non-hierarchical management style, the ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships, and demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity. Candidates must be able to care personally for others, while at the same time able to directly challenge others when needed.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of U.S. higher education environment and academic and alumni culture
• Experience with website development, web 2.0 resources, and social media
• Proficient with budget management and strategic planning
• Familiar with annual giving best practices
• Former experience managing traditional (e.g., call center) as well as digital outreach tools
• Keen understanding of periodical publication process
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Skillful with Microsoft Office or similar office productivity software applications
• Experience with database management
• Ability to lead teams and hold them accountable for clear and measurable goals
• Experience articulating an ambitious program that will elevate UVU alumni relations to a new level
• Skillful at working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• Capable of thinking creatively, building concrete programs, execute on time and with outstanding results
• Experience designing and writing promotional material
• Effective planner, organizer, and event facilitator
• Develop, prepare, and deliver effective education programs, seminars, and workshops on Alumni Relations
• Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions
• Demonstrated experience with inspiring, supervising, training, and leading a team in organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
• Familiar with recruiting, developing, and supervising volunteers.
