Under the direction of the Director of the Exceptional Educational Opportunities (EEO) Program, and the direct supervision of the Associate Director of the EEO/EOF Program, the Student Development Specialist (Professional Services Specialist II) provides comprehensive academic, personal (as it pertains to academic progress) and career counseling guidance to a diverse student population; and facilities EEO/EOF Program efforts to address student retention and initiatives within the Program. The Student Development Specialist will support program objectives to ensure that all students obtain their baccalaureate degree and pursue professional fields of work or graduate studies consistent with the Kean University’s dual mission of access and academic excellence. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. This position is partially grant funded and future employment is contingent upon renewal of supporting grant funds.

 

This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the workday during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university protocol.  

 

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Master’s degree and three years of professional experience in an institution of higher education providing student support services or counseling services is required. Experience in higher education specifically related to personal, academic and career counseling for educationally and financially disadvantaged students is preferred. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs, computer databases and technologies such as web-based services and social media.
