Assistant Professor of English – Generalist (Literature and Rhetoric)

The Department of English at Schreiner University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English. This is a Tenure Track position beginning August 2021. The successful candidate will teach composition courses (e.g. “Composition and Rhetoric,” “Technical Communication”) as well as surveys in early American literature and other literature surveys as needed. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda (preferred area of specialization is American literature before 1865). Responsibilities include teaching, advising, and university service. Teaching load is 12 hours per semester.

We are looking for a motivated individual to help develop compelling courses and increase English major enrollment. This is truly a generalist position for a dedicated teacher. Along with a demonstrable background and investment in Christian liberal arts education, the preferred candidate will demonstrate her/his specific interest in living and working as part of the Schreiner and Kerrville community in the heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in English or ABD with completion no later than August 2021. Teaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.

The first round of interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams in January 2021, followed by formal campus visits for the finalists.  Deadline for receipt of applications is December 15, 2020.

In addition to the online application on the schreiner.edu website, applicants should be prepared to submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts, teaching philosophy, the names, addresses and telephone numbers of three references, and other support materials such as teaching evaluations to: hr@schreiner.edu.
