The Manager of Counseling Services demonstrates skill at building and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff, and faculty. This individual develops internal and community partnerships with other areas of the College to extend resources to students, offer programming, and cultivate referral sources that can have a positive impact on students. Leading the team in both individual and shared goals within the framework of a “students first” approach is an essential component to this role, as is developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for programming and educational outreach. Effective use of data to guide the units work and provide the community with regular updates is essential. This individual will be dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable experience for students working through mental health difficulties that impact other aspects of their lives including academic success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
COUNSELOR AND COUNSELING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Adheres to rules and regulations set by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Ensures the Counseling Services staff is informed and educated on the Board rules and regulations, while adhering to the ethical, legal, and policy standards of practice related to providing mental health services.
Provides consultation to staff counselors on individual cases as needed. Supports Counseling Services staff in grant-related programming, both in practice and development. Works with campus departments for the purposes of crisis stabilization. Chairs the Biennial Review Committee to update and revise policies, procedures, and programming information needed to maintain the College’s drug and alcohol-free environment status for the continuation of federal funding.
Provides training and presentations to students, staff, and faculty in regards to mental health concerns, education, and issues; empowers Counseling Services staff to implement training in a similar fashion. Stays up-to-date on best practices with peer institutions, develops and implements data-driven, innovative programming, and creates yearly plans for educating the community and providing outreach beyond individual counseling.
Oversees the operations of Counseling Services and ensures the delivery of high quality mental health care for all students. Provides leadership and direction to the Counseling Services staff in managing caseloads, triaging students to appropriate areas to receive the help that they need, as well as developing outreach and programming. Coordinates Service delivery with Counseling Services partners on the Delaware campus, including individual treatment for students and implementation of programming.
Assigns and delegates tasks, provides direction, resolves issues and eliminates barriers, communicates job expectations, trains project staff and develops professional growth opportunities. Carries out, explains, interprets and enforces grant agency and institutional policy. Conducts annual employee evaluations, and recommends pay increases, promotions and other personnel actions. Approves leaves and authorizes work schedule alterations as appropriate. Participates in employee selection process. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval, and in collaboration with Human Resources. Assists with monitoring and ensuring compliance with a single department budget process. Supports team members as well as cross-functional partners. Works in collaboration on budget oversight and assists in approving departmental expenditures. Oversees grant compliance and reporting.
STUDENT COUNSELING PRACTITIONER
Conducts mental health assessments with students to help them to identify treatment needs and appropriate interventions. Works with students within a treatment framework to help them identify other essential needs, resources, and referrals both on and off campus. Consults with students, staff, and faculty in regards to mental health concerns, crisis intervention, and matters related to overall wellness of a student in need. Develops and maintains relationships with local mental health facilities, creating appropriate referral sources for students. Utilizes assessment tools, including both mental health and drug and alcohol screenings with students, for the purposes of data collection and resource development. Ensures the delivery and security of student counseling records.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves on College committees, councils, and advisory boards as assigned. Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal as well as internal regulations and procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Other duties as assigned. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

counseling; standards regarding clinical supervision. Data-driven

policy development and implementation; adversities. Administration
of grant-related programming
through SAHMSA and VOCA; budget management; student information systems; emerging technology to help students engage in counseling; community resources and referral sources; campus resources for students; case management for students; teletherapy practices; innovative programming and diverse student body counseling needs.

Create a framework for staff and effectively guide the team through transition and change; facilitate staff working in a unified fashion on shared goals; demonstrate flexibility; implement evaluation of clinical services.
USUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer, frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force up to 10 pounds.
Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. Must travel to various Columbus State campuses and sites.
Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, Social Work or a related field from an accredited college or university, supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of related counseling experience. Licensed (or eligible to be licensed within 3-6 months) to practice independently as a mental health provider in the state of Ohio as it relates to degree. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
