McDaniel College invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor in American Sign Language (ASL) to begin Fall 2021. Teaching duties will consist of three undergraduate courses per semester which could include ASL courses at Levels I – V, Deaf culture, ASL linguistics, ASL Literature, or other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The person hired is also expected to contribute to the General Education program at the undergraduate level (First-Year Seminar, Honors Program, or related programs).  The individual hired will be committed to teaching excellence, remain active conducting research in their scholarly discipline, advise undergraduates, and serve on campus committees.

Terminal degree or minimum ABD required in the area of American Sign Language, ASL Linguistics, Deaf Studies or related field. Fluency in ASL (ASLPI score of 4.0 or better preferred), experience teaching ASL at the post-secondary level required. Must have a certification from the American Sign Language Teacher’s Association (ASLTA) or earn the certification within 2 years. Active involvement in the Deaf Community is desired.
