Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Office of International Programs ( OIP ) is the administrative unit responsible for initiating, coordinating and managing international activity at the university. Among the activities are the development of faculty, student and staff international opportunities and programs, the management of study abroad exchange programs and other MOUs, assistance to all parties in internationalizing the curriculum, enhancing diversity through the increase of international faculty, students and staff on this campus, and the general fostering of an international environment at UNCW . OIP is also responsible for all immigration matters for the university.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Office of International Students & Scholars Program Coordinator plans programs, events, and services to help international students, scholars, and faculty adjust to UNCW and U.S. culture and life. Through core programs, such as International Student Orientation, the Host Family Program, the Student Mentor Program, Global Café, Intercultural Festival, the Global Student Ambassador Program, and out-of-state trips and local events and excursions, the Office of International Students & Scholars Program Coordinator serves as a resource for international students, scholars, and faculty to ensure their well-being and success while at UNCW .
This position also manages communication plans to promote OISS programming to students, campus, and the Wilmington community; develops and designs promotional materials for the OISS unit, including web content, digital and print materials, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, and more; organizes the annual International Student Photo Contest and International Student Blog Contest; and creates informational and instructional videos for international students, scholars and faculty. The Office of International Students & Scholars Program Coordinator also assists with other OISS responsibilities as needed, including participating in cross-trainings to ensure coverage of all areas within the OISS unit.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills particularly with non-native English speakers.

Experience with event planning and coordination.

Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with undergraduate and graduate students, administrators, faculty, staff, and off-campus community members.

Detail-oriented, organized and able to work independently.

Proficiency in social media platforms, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and experience managing social media accounts.

Excellent command of the English language, written and oral.

Demonstrate exceptional professionalism in representing UNCW on-campus and in the community.

Strong interest in global topics and foreign cultures.

Experience and comfort with public speaking and giving presentations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Proficiency in web and publication design.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.

Experience in a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Time spent living/studying overseas

Knowledge of a foreign language

Experience driving a 15-passenger van
