Data Management and Systems Specialist



Job Summary

Rhode Island School of Design's Office of Institutional Engagement is pleased to announce an opening for a Data Management and Systems Specialist for a two-year term appointment. This role is responsible for a range of data integrity, cleansing, manipulation, and update work to support the Division of Institutional Engagement’s efforts to secure private funding through individuals, corporations, and foundations in order to advance RISD’s mission. The Specialist will work closely with the Database Administrator and Application Specialist to help with the development of tools and procedures that support an integrated data environment with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT platform and help prioritize data requests and projects from partners in Institutional Engagement and the wider campus.

Essential Functions

Data Extraction and Manipulation

  • Write queries to pull defined criteria provided by offices within Institutional Engagement

  • Demonstrate proficiency with The Raiser’s Edge platforms including entering and maintaining clean accurate data that adheres to departmental data integrity standards

  • Work closely with the Analyst, Data Management, and Systems to import and export data for the department’s various needs to fulfill criteria and deadline requests across programs. Identify criteria and format for reporting and analytics, as requested

  • Work closely with the Database Administrator and Application Specialist on various in-depth projects for data collection and management



Project Management and Execution:

  • Management and distribution of requests submitted to Advancement Services inbox

  • Identification and deployment of project management tracking mechanisms to ensure projects adhere to scheduled timelines

  • Regularly inform key stakeholders on project status and tracking

  • Development and maintenance of various request forms from our Institutional Engagement and campus colleagues to request mailing lists, report requests, prospect lists, etc.



Project-based Work:

  • Completion of specifically assigned data projects as needed (data clean-ups, record coding projects, data reconciliation projects, etc.)



Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in business, finance, accounting, or computer science or other Bachelor’s degree with relevant data management experience

  • Knowledge of development, fundraising, and advancement services and functions in higher education or a complex not-for-profit environment

  • An ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of constituents (individual donors, alumni, business leaders, public figures, faculty, and staff), within an environment that values diversity as defined by but not limited to race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation/identity, and/or socioeconomic status.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Capability to work independently and collaboratively with moderate supervision.

  • 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in a development office performing database management and analysis

  • Excellent organization skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage multiple demands, work under pressure, and meet deadlines with accuracy, speed, independent judgment, and minimal supervision

  • Ability to interact professionally, courteously, and effectively with Institutional Engagement and campus colleagues

  • Computer skills, such as MS Office, Word, Excel, and Google required

  • Raiser’s Edge experience preferred

  • Analytical skills

  • Superlative diplomatic and communication skills, including an ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of divisional and institutional colleagues, within an environment that values diversity as defined by, but not limited to, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation/identity, and/or socio-economic status
