Position Summary:
The Career Advising Liaison provides career education/advising to help students and alumni explore and achieve their career goals, including major exploration, preparing and competing for internships, research experiences, professional employment, and admission to graduate school, especially within their assigned college(s). Liaisons provide a strong connection between Career Services and the college(s) and student populations they are assigned to. Liaisons work closely with their college's administrators, advisors, and faculty, as well as the Career Services Employer Relations team to increase connections between students and employers. Liaisons provide both tailored career education and advising to students and alumni from the college/student population they have been assigned to, as well as general career education/advising through Career Services.

Approximately 75% of the time, the Career Advising Liaison will work remotely in the college/department that they are assigned to. They will collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators in their college(s) in order to identify the career development needs of students and the best methods for providing these services. Career Advising Liaisons will also work closely with members of the Employer Relations team (ER) to educate students on employer recruitment activities and facilitate connections between students and employers. The career development needs of students will vary by colleges. Depending on the college's specific needs, service delivery could include but are not limited to, 1-on-1 client appointments/consultations, teaching major/career decision-making classes, conducting class presentations and workshops, and assisting with professional development and networking events.

For the remaining 25% of their time, the Career Advising Liaison will work in Career Services as a member of the Career Advising Team (CAT) to provide general career education/advising services for students during drop-in hours and at Career Services sponsored events. Through group/classroom presentations and individual advising meetings, the Career Advising Liaison educates and advises clients on: the career/major decision-making process; development of cover letters, resumes/CVs, and other job/internship application documents; job/internship search strategies; effective interviewing techniques; on-line career resources and technologies; the graduate school application process; strategic involvement/participation in experiential learning opportunities; networking; salary and benefit negotiations, and other career development topics.

The University of Idaho Career Services is currently seeking (1) Career Advising Liaison to work with our College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) and College of Natural Resources (CNR).

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in an Agricultural or Natural Resources related field; or, Communication, English, Adult Education, Business Education, Human Resources, Career and Technical Education, Psychology, or related field.
• 1 year experience advising, counseling, mentoring, or supervising college students.
• Experience speaking publicly, presenting information to individuals, small, and large groups.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in an Agricultural or Natural Resources related field; or, Communication, English, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Adult Education, Business Education, Human Resources, Career and Technical Education or related field.
• Previous field or industry experience in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, natural resources, and/or environmental science.
• Professional work experience in career counseling, advising/mentoring, student development, or career education, or in the industries related to their college assignment.
• Knowledge of and experience using career recruitment databases and on-line career information systems, including, but limited to: Handshake, Symplicity, CSO/Career Ladders, O*NET, Occupational Outlook, Idaho CIS, EMSI, or related systems.
• Knowledge of and experience using job boards and social media for professional networking and job searches.
• Certification in and experience administering and interpreting career assessments (FOCUS 2, Sokanu, Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI, SIGI 3, Kuder, ACT Profile, or related assessment tool)
• Past participation in experiential learning activities such as internships, co-ops, service projects/national service programs, study abroad, research, national exchanges, or student leadership activities.
• Certification in and experience with career advising/counseling certifications programs, including, but limited to: Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF), NCC, BCC, NACE Coach Certification, CCA, CRC, LCPC, LMHC, or other counseling related program
• Membership and/or experience with NACE or regional NACE associations, NCDA, and/or ICDA (or other state NCDA association)
• Ability to perform research.
• Ability to work effectively on a team and independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and edit business documents.
• Knowledge of or experience with recruitment databases and Internet resources for career searches.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
• This position will be assigned to the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and College of Natural Resources.
• Ability to work irregular hours including weekends and evening on a regular basis.
• Ability to travel periodically across multiple states with or without an accommodation.
