Description
The Dean of Student Support (DSS)
works closely with the Head of School, the Academic Director, and
the academic team to implement practices and policies that best
care for students at the school. The DSS has primary responsibility
for providing academic, social, and emotional support to students
and teachers. By forming effective working partnerships with
faculty and parents, the DSS promotes the healthy growth and
well-being of each individual student and addresses any academic or
behavioral concerns that students may present.
Duties
Ensures that the school provides academic, social, and
emotional services for all students and especially for students who
require additional support to thrive in the school’s core academic
program
Reviews the results of diagnostic assessments of new students
to identify students in need of special education, English Language
Learner instruction, and at--‐risk student services
Manages support programs such as counseling, tutoring,
etc.
Collaborates with senior administrators to make certain that
faculty utilizes best instructional practices and remains current
on research concerning effective pedagogy
Develops an orderly school climate that promotes personal
growth and learning
Keeps records regarding attendance, absences; refers
extraordinary situations to the attention of the senior
administrative team
Develops guidelines, regulations, and programs to facilitate
growth and responsibility among the student body
Maintains communication with parents, teachers, counselors, and
administrators in matters pertaining to student attendance,
discipline, personal growth, and good order.
Qualifications
Distinguished experience teaching in a high school setting or
other equivalent educational environment
Deep knowledge of educational research and analysis
Excellent writing and presentational skills
Strong organizational, facilitation and management
abilities
Master’s degree in relevant area
Proficiency in Spanish preferred
