Job Description:

The Worden School of Social Service (WSSS) is recognized nationally as the first School of Social Work in Texas. Student enrollment is over 1000; there are over 800 students in the online MSW program. The Worden School offers BSW, MSW and Ph.D. degree programs in traditional face-to-face, hybrid and fully online formats. The program serves three campuses: San Antonio, Rio Grande Valley and Online.

The Worden School of Social Service invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The School welcomes applications from all candidates and is particularly interested in candidates whose substantive areas include policy practice, and substance use. Appointment begins August 2021; and involves teaching on campus and online. 

 


Requirements:

  • A doctorate in social work or related field, and at least two years post-MSW practice experience with an MSW from a CSWE accredited school.
  • Documented experience in teaching graduate and/or undergraduate level courses and across the curriculum.
  • Record of publication and scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with institutional application of information technology and distance education.
  • Expertise in cross-cultural social work practice with emphasis on Hispanic families and children.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

The Worden School of Social Service (WSSS), the first school of social work in Texas, was established more than 75 years ago, and since has set the standard for social work education by providing innovative curriculum in different modalities including online, on campus and hybrid, and by its commitment to honoring, celebrating and respecting diversity and its Hispanic heritage. Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), WSSS offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Student enrollment is over 950.

The Worden School is often recognized for excellence in educating the country's social workers. The Worden School is housed at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). Founded in 1895 by the Congregation of Divine Providence, OLLU has developed a reputation for its expertise in Mexican American culture, its deep connection to the history and the community of San Antonio, and its dedication to social justice. As a point of pride, OLLU hosted the U.S. commission on Civil Rights Hearing on Mexican American in the Southwest in 1968 and houses the first National Institute of Mexican American History of Civil Rights. OLLU is also famous for its beautiful, lakeside campus, which mixes historic buildings with a contemporary library, residence halls and technology infrastructure.
