Job Description:

The Worden School of Social Service invites applications for Director of the Ph.D. Program (Associate or Full Professor). The successful candidate will join a diverse school with faculty and staff who are committed to creating a community that lives up to the principles of social work. Now, in its second year, the Ph.D. program provides traditional and rigorous doctoral education that is mission-driven.  We seek to increase access, diversity, and inclusion in social work higher education. The Ph.D. curriculum emphasizes advanced social work practice and focuses on preparing practitioner-scholars who bridge the gap between academic researchers and practitioners, while preparing them to serve at minority-serving institutions.

The Ph.D. Director provides administrative oversight to the Ph.D. Program and reports directly to the Director of the Worden School of Social Service.  The Ph.D. Program Director is a member of the Worden School of Social Service leadership team, and supervises staff associated with the Ph.D. program. 

Appointment

This will be an 11-month appointment, and the selected candidate, will come in at the rank of at least Associate Professor. 

 


Requirements:

The Worden School of Social Service is searching for a dynamic Ph.D. Director, who will embrace the vision of the WSSS whose Ph.D. curriculum focuses on preparing practitioner-scholars who bridge the gap between academic researchers and practitioners, while preparing them to serve at minority-serving institutions. Requirements include:

  • An MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program with doctorate in social work.
  • Documented research and funding agenda.
  • Extensive record of publication and scholarly activity.
  • Experience teaching and advising students from undeserved populations.
  • Experience in grant writing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with online learning and education.
  • Expertise in cross-cultural social work practice with emphasis on Hispanic families and children.
  • Prior academic administrative experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English).

About the Worden School of Social Service

The Worden School of Social Service (WSSS), the first school of social work in Texas, was established more than 75 years ago, and since has set the standard for social work education by providing innovative curriculum in different modalities including online, on campus and hybrid, and by its commitment to honoring, celebrating and respecting diversity and its Hispanic heritage. Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), WSSS offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Student enrollment is over 950.

The Worden School is often recognized for excellence in educating the country's social workers.
