The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at The College of Wooster invites applications for a two-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2021.  The department has twelve full-time faculty and offers majors in Statistical & Data Sciences (SDS), Mathematics, and Computer Science, graduating 40-70 seniors annually. We emphasize mentored undergraduate research and experiential learning, with every student completing a year-long senior thesis project and many participating in our unique Applied Methods & Research Experience program.

The successful candidate will teach five courses annually, including introductory courses in SDS and other courses in math and/or SDS, along with directing senior capstone thesis projects.  A Ph.D. in a related field is required.

We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (22% domestic students of color and 16% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience mentoring diverse student populations.

Please submit a cover letter, CV, unofficial graduate transcripts, teaching statement, research statement, one-page diversity statement, and three reference letters through MathJobs.org.  The cover letter should include discussion of the candidate’s preparation to teach SDS.  The diversity statement should speak to the candidate’s ability to engage with issues of diversity in the classroom and the curriculum, as well as on campus and/or the broader community.  Questions concerning the search process should be directed to Drew Pasteur, Chair of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, at rpasteur@wooster.edu. Review of applications will begin January 11 and continue until the position is filled.

The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to inclusive excellence in undergraduate education. We are especially interested in hiring faculty who contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service, and who are committed to ensuring the success of diverse student populations. We evaluate qualified applicants without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical and/or mental disability, age, religion, medical condition, veteran status, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by institutional policy, or by state, local, or federal law.
