Assistant Professor of Interior Design

 

 

The School of Art & Design at the University of Wisconsin–Stout invites applications for an open position in Interior Design commencing fall semester of 2021. This position will support BFA and MFA students studying Interior Design.  The Assistant Professor position is a tenure-track, 9-month academic year position. Position expectations primarily include teaching at the undergraduate level, graduate level, outreach to industry, creative research, and service to the department, college, and university. The BFA in Interior Design program is CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation) accredited and the university is NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) accredited.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • At least two years of teaching or professional experience in the field of interior design
  • Master’s degree in field related to interior design
  • An interest in advancing student learning in the area of interior design
  • Knowledge of general rendering and electronic communication software such as Autodesk Revit, SketchUp, etc.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach studio courses each semester, following National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) guidelines, that may include introductory, intermediate, and advanced interior design classes, as well as other studio classes that support the major.
  • Collaborate with School of Art & Design faculty and/or other majors to develop new and/or review existing curriculum
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive learning environment
  • Provide academic advisement for students and assessment of student learning
  • Participate in course and program assessment and accreditation
  • Perform service to the department, college, and university
  • Engage in professional creative research
  • Pursue external funding
  • Perform other duties as designated by Chair

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The BFA Interior Design program at the University of Wisconsin – Stout competes on both the regional and national level, attracting students from around the country.

The program blends fine art, design and technology, and is CIDA accredited. We prepare our students for their careers through comprehensive curriculum taught by expert, experienced faculty. As a hands-on learning experience, courses focus on problem solving and critical thinking. The program encompasses both residential and commercial space planning, lighting design, materials, construction documentation and sustainability design.

 

The School of Art & Design has over 70 faculty/staff and over 1,100 students, making it the largest higher education art and design entity in the upper Midwest. UW–Stout has six distinct BFA programs, including Entertainment Design - Animation, Game Design & Development—Art, Graphic Design & Interactive Media, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Studio Art, a BS in Art Education, and an MFA program in Design.
