The OSUN Center for Human Rights and the Arts is seeking a full-time, versatile, creative, and detail-oriented Program Manager to play a central role in helping establish and maintain the administrative structure for the new Center and its flagship M.A. Program in Human Rights and the Arts. The position will be based at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson (NY). The Center is a project of the Open Society University Network (OSUN).

The Center seeks to confront the current practical and conceptual challenges of human rights discourse by stimulating new ways of thinking, developing new strategies of activism and engagement, incubating new relationships between activists, scholars and artists, and working seriously and meaningfully at a global scale. The M.A. program will welcome its first cohort of graduate students, including artists and activists, in Fall 2021 with an international, comparative, and interdisciplinary curriculum. The Center will work with artists and activists outside the campus environment as well as within it to create real dialogues between the academy and the frontlines of struggles for rights and justice. It will sponsor and contribute to a wide range of public programs, including exhibitions and festivals, both in the US and internationally.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Center and M.A. directors -- and the broader OSUN team -- to create, implement, and evaluate the launch of the initiative. Key responsibilities will include helping to create a strategic plan for administering the admissions process as well as course offerings and scheduling; organizing public lectures, conferences, and workshops; facilitating faculty and student grants and post-doctoral fellowships; and engaging in related communication and coordination across Bard College, the Center for Curatorial Studies and Fisher Center for Performing Arts, and the Open Society University Network.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participate in and contribute to regular team meetings related to long-term strategic planning, annual programming, course scheduling, student admissions, fellowship selection, and grants awarding.
  • Organize calls for applications and the selection process of M.A. students, postdoctoral fellows, student and faculty grants, and course proposals, in partnership with the Center and M.A. Program directors.
  • Coordinate logistics for Center events (e.g., lectures, panels, conferences, and workshops), including space and equipment reservation, travel and accommodation, and publicity.
  • Coordinate with arts production teams at the Fisher Center and Center for Curatorial Studies in support of performances, festivals, and exhibitions organized by the Center.
  • Monitor and track the Center budget, including revenues, expenditures, and other transactions, in accordance with Bard College and OSUN guidelines.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, faculty, and staff at Bard College, the broader OSUN network, and the general public for inquiries, proposals, and other communications concerning Institute activities and potential collaborations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent undergraduate degree.
  • Previous experience in administration, particularly in the fields of education, the arts, or human rights.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Fluency with Word/Pages, Excel/Numbers, and a wide range of Google platforms, including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Drive.
  • Proven ability to track and manage financial records including institutional budget, programming expenses, and scholarship/grant disbursement.
  • Track record of working well both independently and collaboratively, effective time management, and successful event planning.
  • Willingness to approach the work week flexibly, as some activities and events will be held on weekends and evenings to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed.

Strongly Preferred Skill Sets:
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere), audio-video editing software, video conferencing, and content management systems.
  • Fluency in at least one spoken language other than English.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in standard office environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds.
