VICE PRESIDENT INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT

Summary:
Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking a Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement reports to the President of the University and is a member of the President's Cabinet and other senior leadership councils. The position leads all university fundraising and alumni relations programs and is CEO of Utah Valley University Foundation (“UVU Foundation”), Inc.

From 2016-2020 UVU has had unprecedented success in fundraising. The new Vice President for Institutional Advancement will build on this successful track record and bring fundraising to the next level, in line with UVU's growth and aspirations as Utah's largest public university. The VP reports directly to the President of the University and is a member of the President's Cabinet and other senior leadership councils. Primary duties include: leading all university fundraising and alumni relations programs, working in partnership with the President's Office, Cabinet, President's Emerald Society, UVU Board of Trustees, UVU Foundation Board, UVU Alumni Association Board, and select advisory boards. The VP collaborates closely with academic, student affairs, and other university leaders to ensure that fundraising supports core pillars of the academic experience, student completion, and engaged learning. The VP will be tasked to launch UVU's inaugural comprehensive campaign. The VP will expand the University's funding base and fund-raising efforts by engaging with business leaders, alumni, corporate partners, foundations, high-net-worth individuals, community stakeholders, university administrators, faculty, staff, and students,. The position also serves as CEO of the UVU Foundation and works closely with the chair of the Foundation Board.

As a senior leader, the VP is expected to run a high-performing team with clear goals and accountabilities; observe the highest standards of integrity, responsiveness, and professionalism; and deliver outstanding results in fundraising.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a visionary, innovative, and operational leader who will lead UVU’s strategic goal to run a successful comprehensive campaign, increase the university’s endowment, and fundraise successfully for the university’s priorities. The candidate must have a successful track record in relationship-building, communications, and fundraising. The candidate must know how to build a solid base of active and giving alumni. Requires a bachelor’s degree and five years of fundraising experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of Utah, Utah Valley University, and the higher education and advancement landscape.
• Knowledge of fundraising processes, procedures, techniques and ethics, including best practices for comprehensive (capital) campaigns.
• Knowledge of IRS and state regulations and laws, or willingness to learn Utah’s regulations and laws, related to charitable giving, non-profit organizations, and state agencies.
• Knowledge of best practices in managing boards, endowments, and investment practices for university foundations.

• Decisiveness, resourcefulness, and focus on outcomes.
• Attentiveness to details and relationships.
• Strategic planning, project management, and outcomes assessment.

• Seek input from a variety of sources, interpret and synthesize the information, formulate a sound, well-organized advancement plan, and execute the plan.
• Secure and maintain the trust and confidence of boards, university leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, the community, prospective donors, and donors.
• Model and teach effective fundraising procedures, techniques and programs to others.
• Manage a complex budget consisting of both donated and university funds.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive) credentials are preferred, but not required.
  • Advanced degree preferred, but not required.


Physical Requirements:
Work is performed with minimal physical abilities. Office environment. Some travel required.
