Boston College is launching an Engineering Department within the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences and invites applicants for several tenured/tenure-track positions at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor).  Applicants seeking a full-time, non-tenure track teaching-oriented position (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor of the Practice) are also welcome.  The start date for these positions is flexible (January 2021 or Fall 2021).

Beginning in 2021, this new department will offer a Human-Centered Engineering major (B.S. in Engineering Science) in collaboration with the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society.  The program will uniquely position students to tackle the technological, human, and societal dimensions of major global challenges in health, energy, and the environment by integrating Boston College’s Core liberal arts curriculum, engineering science and fundamentals, entrepreneurial practices, design and systems thinking, and service-oriented project experiences.  Our hope is to prepare students to become engineers for a better world.  Anchored by a human-centered inclusive approach and design-thinking methodologies, engineering study at Boston College will be bolstered by a global viewpoint, ethical underpinnings, and distinctive project-based experiences that address real-world challenges.  Boston College strives to provide students with a liberal arts education that integrates intellectual rigor with character formation.  Our Human-Centered Engineering program will follow this model by educating students who will be prepared to address complex global problems, especially problems related to health, energy, and the environment, and to develop and use technology responsibly, in service of the common good.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline, computer science, or a closely related field.  We seek faculty candidates whose scholarship is driven by a desire to have a positive impact in both the academy and the wider society.  Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student growth and formative education and enthusiasm for sharing in the creative work of building a new department and an academic program that will offer an innovative interdisciplinary approach to human-centered engineering.
