POSITION:                              

Assistant or Associate Professor in Fashion Merchandising. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment.

QUALIFICATIONS:                  

Earned Doctorate in Apparel, Fashion Merchandising, or related field. Individuals who are All but Dissertation (ABD) will be considered for this position. A strong interest and skills in undergraduate teaching and advising are essential. The candidate should have demonstrated abilities to communicate effectively and to work well with others. A desire to live in the local area and work with community organizations to strengthen university-community relations is a preferred.  Developed skills in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students along with experience in recruiting and curriculum development are a plus. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                

This is a 9-month, tenure-track position, which will be administered by the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences.  Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in fashion merchandising including, but not limited to: fashion design and construction; sociocultural aspects of dress; buying, planning, and visual merchandising; fashion industry processes and promotion, and basic textiles. Opportunities exist for development of additional courses in the applicant’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly activities at the university, local, regional, state, national, and/or international levels, as well as to create and/or engage in community service activities in area(s) of expertise. Other responsibilities include: student advising, university service, supervising student travel, and active involvement in professional organizations.

 

SALARY:                                 

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

THE DEPARTMENT:               

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS), is a unit within the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The department offers integrated programs leading to B.S. and M.S. degrees in Family and Consumer Sciences. The department has concentrations in Child and Family Studies; Dietetics; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Fashion Merchandising; Food and Nutrition; Gerontology; and Hospitality and Food Service Management. The graduate program is an approved program by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission and offers concentrations in General Family and Consumer Sciences and Dietetics. The department has an enrollment of approximately 110 undergraduate and 40 graduate students and 6 FTE faculty positions.

 

THE UNIVERSITY:                   

UT Martin is one of four primary campuses of The University of Tennessee System.  Located in northwest Tennessee, the campus has an enrollment of approximately 6,900 and a faculty of approximately 250.  UT Martin has an established reputation as a superior quality undergraduate institution with programs of study leading to degrees in more than 65 specialized fields.
